Handcrafted Shibori, Made in Jaipur

Our shibori collection brings the old resist-dye craft into the Swati Vijaivargie studio. We fold, bind, clamp and dye each piece by hand, so the pattern is never quite the same twice. If you want something handmade rather than mass-printed, this is the edit.

What shibori is

Shibori is a resist-dyeing technique. Cloth is tied, folded or clamped before it goes into the dye, and the bound sections resist the colour. The result is soft, organic patterns, usually in indigo and tonal shades. It is slow work, and that shows in the finish.

What you will find here

The collection covers shibori kurta sets, dresses, tunics and co-ords. Most are cut in breathable cotton and chanderi, so they stay comfortable in warm weather. The look is easy enough for daily wear, with enough character for relaxed festive days and casual gatherings.

Patterns and palettes

You will see classic indigo, soft ombre gradients and tonal blends across the range. Some pieces lean graphic, others are gentle and washed out. Because each one is dyed by hand, small variations are part of the design rather than a flaw.

How to style shibori

Shibori does the talking, so keep the rest simple. Pair a shibori kurta with plain bottoms, or wear a shibori dress on its own with minimal jewellery. Silver and oxidised pieces sit well against indigo.

Care

Wash separately for the first few washes, gentle hand wash in cold water, and dry in shade. This protects the hand-dyed colour and keeps it from bleeding onto lighter pieces.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is shibori?

A resist-dye technique where fabric is folded, bound or clamped before dyeing, which creates the distinctive patterns.

Will my piece look exactly like the photo?

Not exactly. Each piece is hand-dyed, so expect small, natural variation from the image.

What fabrics are used?

Mostly breathable cotton and chanderi, suited to warm weather and daily wear.

How do I care for shibori?

Gentle cold hand wash, wash separately at first, and dry in shade.
